NASA Ames has initiated basic R & D in the areas of carbon nanotubes, molecular electronics, inorganic nanowires, nanostructured materials, protein nanotubes, and bioinspired systems to meet the grand challenges. The experimental development is complemented in most cases by modeling and simulation.
